Anxiety can feel overwhelming, but the response itself has a purpose. Your brain has learned to look for danger and protect you — sometimes reacting to everyday situations as though something is wrong, even when you're actually safe.
The racing heart before a meeting, the constant “what if?” thoughts, the tension you can't seem to switch off — these aren't conscious choices.
They're patterns that can become automatic over time. And because they're learned responses, it may be possible to help you respond differently.

Sometimes you can know perfectly well that there's nothing to worry about; yet your body and mind react as though there is. That's because anxiety isn't always something you can simply think your way out of. Responses can become associated with particular situations, thoughts or feelings and begin happening automatically.
For some people there was a particular experience that started it. For others, anxiety developed gradually through periods of stress, uncertainty or feeling constantly on guard. And sometimes there isn't an obvious reason at all.
Hypnotherapy gives us a way to work with these automatic responses rather than relying on conscious effort alone; helping you begin to experience familiar situations differently.
Your sessions are tailored to you, but overall we will work to:

We'll explore when anxiety tends to appear, what seems to trigger it and the patterns that keep the automatic response going.

The aim isn't simply to cope with anxiety, but to help calm become a more natural response in situations that previously felt difficult or overwhelming.

Using hypnotic techniques informed by memory reconsolidation research, we'll work with the thoughts, feelings and responses associated with situations that have previously triggered anxiety.

You'll learn practical 'pattern interrupt' techniques you can use when you notice anxiety beginning, helping you to interrupt the loop before it can fully activate.
The programme includes three individual sessions, with each stage building on the previous one.
Session 1: Understanding your anxiety patterns and beginning the change process
Session 2: Working more deeply with the responses and triggers relevant to you
Session 3: Strengthening new responses and giving you tools to continue the progress you've made
You won't be expected to force yourself through distressing experiences. Hypnotherapy is generally a calm, collaborative process, and we'll work at a pace that feels appropriate for you.

The goal isn't simply to give you more ways to cope when anxiety appears. It's to work with the patterns behind the response, so you can spend less time anticipating what might go wrong and more time feeling present, capable and engaged with your life.
