Your Fear Is Real.

But It Doesn't Have to Control Your Life.

You may know logically that the situation isn't as dangerous as it feels. But when the fear response takes over, logic often isn't enough.

Your heart races. Your body tenses. You feel an overwhelming urge to escape or avoid whatever has triggered the fear. And the more you avoid it, the more powerful that response can begin to feel.

Whether it's flying, spiders, needles, heights, driving, animals or something very specific to you, phobias can create an automatic fear response that feels completely out of proportion to the actual situation.

Hypnotherapy can help you work with that automatic response, so the trigger can begin to feel less threatening and you can respond more calmly.

When fear Starts Limiting Your Life.

Living with a phobia or fear can mean gradually arranging more and more of your life around avoiding that thing:

  • Turning down opportunities because they involve your trigger

  • Missing important events (weddings abroad, medical care, career advancement)

  • Feeling embarrassed about something you can't control

  • That exhausting hypervigilance, always scanning for the thing you fear

Avoidance can bring short-term relief, but it can also reinforce the sense that the situation really is dangerous. Over time, the fear can become more established — even when part of you knows your reaction is out of proportion.

The aim of hypnotherapy is to help change that automatic response, rather than simply asking you to reason your way out of it.

A Different Approach

Step 1: Understanding the Fear Response

We'll explore how your particular fear operates; what triggers it, what happens in your mind and body, and any experiences that may be relevant to how the fear developed. You won't need to relive frightening experiences.

Step 2: Changing the Automatic Response

Using hypnotherapy and related techniques appropriate to your situation, we'll work with the automatic associations and responses connected with the fear, helping the trigger begin to feel less threatening.

Step 3: Building Confidence For The Future

We'll reinforce a calmer response and help you mentally rehearse situations that previously triggered fear. You'll also have practical techniques you can use yourself to support the changes after the session.

What Could Life Feel Like With Less Fear?

Imagine being able to think about the situation without that immediate surge of panic.

Being able to make plans based on what you actually want to do, rather than what your fear will allow.

Taking a flight. Booking the appointment. Going somewhere new. Being around an animal. Or simply knowing that if you encounter the thing you used to fear, you can handle it differently.

That's the change we'll work towards not forcing you to “face your fear”, but helping the fear response itself become calmer and more manageable.

Fears and Phobias FAQs

Q1 How many sessions will I need?

The phobia programme is built around one ninety-minute session, with a sixty-minute follow-up if needed. Specific phobias can sometimes respond quickly to focused work, so for some clients that's enough. Others need the follow-up, and occasionally a further session or two. I won't know until we've discussed your particular phobia, and I don't promise a fixed number in advance.

Q2 Will I have to confront the thing I'm afraid of?

No. We can work with the fear response using hypnotherapy and related techniques, without asking you to confront the thing you're afraid of during the session. The aim is to help the trigger begin to feel less threatening and your response become calmer and more manageable.

Q3 Do I need to know what caused it?

No, but if you can identify the specific experience where the fear first took hold, it's useful; that memory becomes part of the process itself, and working with it directly is often what allows the fear response to be defused. If no definite experience comes to mind, that's fine too; the technique doesn't depend on it, and we can still work effectively with the fear as it presents now.

Q4 Can hypnotherapay help with any kind of fear?

In most cases, yes, though I'll confirm this during your assessment. We'll discuss the specific fear so I can judge whether my approach is right for it, and I'll say honestly if it isn't.

Q5 Can the hypnotherapy be done online?

Yes, where appropriate. Many fears and phobias can be worked with effectively online, and I'll discuss with you whether online or face-to-face sessions are the better fit for your particular situation.
